Anise star or Badiam

Chopped anise is commonly used in cooking, particularly for frying foods to protect them from bacterial or fungal damage. In small quantities, it adds a strong, aromatic flavor to dishes. Star anise is a perfect addition to compotes made with pears, plums, and apples, as well as in savory dishes like sweet fruit soups, fruit salads, and with vegetables such as pumpkin, carrots, beetroot, and red cabbage. It's also a classic flavoring in gingerbread, punch, graka, and liqueurs.

Star anise pairs beautifully with mushroom and fish dishes, enhancing their flavors. Whole grain flour, often used for baking bread, can also be prepared with anise for various pastries and meals.
